Tim Shaw (Soundwalk & Konzert)
Ambulation is a walking performance that uses listening technologies to harvest diverse sounds from the immediate environment. Drawing on field recording techniques, Tim Shaw records acoustic sounds and electromagnetic waves as he walks. He collects, repeats, processes and mixes these sounds using his own portable equipment. He improvises an event that intertwines past sound events with those that come along the way. A group of people follow him, each wearing wireless headphones, witnessing a strange, live field recording performance. Ambulation has been performed at over 40 different festivals and events around the world. https://tim-shaw.info/projects/ambulation/
Points of Failure is an ongoing series of concerts and installations in which miscellaneous objects and repurposed audio equipment is used to create an audiovisual performance-environment. By using DIY electronics, found objects, light and sound making circuits, the musical potential of everyday materials is explored in response to the architectural features of the performance space. Points of Failure works entirely with live processes and no pre recorded sound material occurs during the performance. Through the making and unmaking of objects and building hybrid mechanisms for making noise an eclectic multi sensory experience unfolds, one in which sound, light, smoke, smell and action intertwine. Points of Failure has been performed at over 35 festivals and events worldwide. https://tim-shaw.info/projects/points-of-failure/
Artist and researcher Tim Shaw works with sound, light, and communication media to create performances, installations, and site-responsive interventions. His practice spans environmental sound art, digital media, media archaeology, walking, and installation making. Previously, Tim has developed artistic mechanisms to listen into the sound-worlds of insects, created augmented soundwalks, designed performances for high voltage devices, broadcast radio through trees, listened to network latency through time stretched bells, and extracted musical material from rocks. He frequently presents his work at festivals, in forests, caves, warehouses, up mountains, and in museums and art galleries all over the world. Collaboration is central to his approach and he has engaged in interdisciplinary partnerships with medieval musicologists, medical scientists, anthropologists, geologists, architects and astrophysicists. He has been lucky enough to make artistic work with Chris Watson, Phill Niblock, and Dirty Electronics (among many others). https://tim-shaw.info/

Magdalena Forster (Performance)

Der Betrieb is an art space in Vienna’s 15th district founded by choreographers Alexander Gottfarb and Anna Maria Nowak. Dedicated to live durational performance, it offers free access to evolving artistic processes in a fluid setting that shifts between studio, theatre, gallery, and social space. https://www.archipelago.at/projects/the-season-of-sound/
A Season Between the Lines is a durational, interdisciplinary performance exploring how public language—headlines, articles, speeches—is shaped by embodied experience. Rooted in performative practice and cognitive linguistics, the work approaches texts not as scripts but as physical material: a living terrain of meanings to inhabit and transform through movement, voice, and sound.
Building on Anna Maria Nowak’s research into the embodied nature of thought and language, the performance treats public content as a “body of text”. The performers trace conceptual metaphors embedded in everyday language: what happens when “coming under pressure” or “healing a nation” are taken literally, with our bodies? What physicality lies behind the “weight of responsibility”? Drawing on experiences of space, pressure, pain, and orientation, such expressions shape emotional and political responses.
By exploring the weight, energy, and gestures embedded in language, the artists search for hidden framings and tools for navigating the constant flow of information. How might “moving” language reshape existing narratives? Can we influence discourse by adding more space, time, and body between the lines?
In collaboration with visual artist Hanna Hollmann, Der Betrieb is transformed into an immersive landscape of orientational relations. Queer sound artist Zosia Hołubowska creates the soundscape and performs live throughout the season. Visitors are invited into this evolving environment, contributing texts and participating in their transformation.
Der Betrieb becomes a poetic space of sense-making, where ideas are explored as living processes. Through the interaction of word, body, and space, they are set into motion rather than set in stone.
