Daily Special #02

Daily Special steht als transmediales Ausstellungsprojekt für eine performative Erweiterung des klassischen Konzertformats Das spartenübergreifende Projekt untersucht die Schnittstellen zwischen experimenteller Musik, Performance, Musiktheater und bildender Kunst. Im Zentrum steht ein kollektiver Arbeitsprozess, der das Ineinandergreifen unterschiedlicher künstlerischer Praktiken ermöglicht und neue Formen der interdisziplinären Zusammenarbeit erprobt. Das Projekt wird von Stefan Grimus und Anna Hostek geleitet.

Stefan Grimus ist ein in Wien geborener und lebender Komponist. Er studiert an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien und hat Soziologie in Wien und Berlin studiert. Seine Arbeit ist in der Subkultur-Ästhetik experimenteller Club- und gitarrenbasierter Musik verwurzelt, deren musikalische Parameter und Strukturen durch zeitgenössische klassische Musikpraktiken erweitert werden. Anna Hostek schloss die Klassen Skulptur und Raum bei Hans Schabus (2022) und TransArts (2021) an der Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien ab und studierte an der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien in der Klasse für Fotograf ie bei Martin Guttmann. Ausgebildet als Schneiderin, arbeitet Hostek seit 2014 projektbasiert an der Entwicklung von Kostümbildern an Theater- und Opernhäusern. Seit 2018 ist sie mitverantwortlich für die dynamische Ausstellungsplattform ‚E++‘. Seit 2024 leitet sie mit Stefan Grimus die Performancereihe ‚Daily Special‘. Ihrer künstlerischen Arbeiten wurden unter anderem bei Galerie Georg Kargl PERMANENT (AT), EXILE Gallery (AT), Fonda Leipzig (DE), housy (CHE) und City Galerie (AT) gezeigt. https://www.hostek.at/

Dora Donata Sammer is a soloist and chamber musician. In 2023, she won the f irst prize of the Berlin Prize for Young Artists, an international competition that honours solo programmes by instrumentalists with outstanding skills and strong artistic visions. The young Austrian recorder player distinguishes herself in unconventional curated concert programmes in which she focuses on the interplay of early and contemporary music as mutually dependent. The role of space in music and the creation of temporary spaces through music is the central element and goal. She is interested in contrasts and extremes, in the challenges of physically and audibly going to and beyond boundaries in musical pieces and concert programmes. For her, early and contemporary music are mutually dependent as they cannot exist without each others references. Through her studies of early music, historical performance practice and from the perspective as a double instrumentalist, coming from the piano and fortepiano, Dora Donata Sammer approached contemporary music and collaborations with today’s composers. Born in Graz in 1997, she studied at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, where she completed her master’s degree in recorder with Dorothee Oberlinger. Furthermore she studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Carsten Eckert (recorder) and Albert Sassmann (piano), specialising in fortepiano with Stefan Gottfried. Robert Schwarz arbeitet im Grenzbereich zwischen Architektur, Musik und bildender Kunst. Er studierte Architektur an der Technischen Universität Wien, Computer Musik an der Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Wien und Sound Studies an der Universität der Kunste Berlin. Veröffentlichungen von Tonträgern bei den Labels ETAT, Alter Records, Gruenrekorder, AVA, und Barehands. Ausstellungsbeteiligungen u. a. in der Kunsthalle Wien, der Ars Electronica Linz, dem CTM Berlin, im MAK Center for Art and Architecture in Los Angeles, im Etablissement d ́en Face in Brussel, im Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin sowie im Museum fur Angewandte Kunst Wien. Für seine Arbeit erhielt er Stipendien und Auszeichnungen wie das MAK Schindler Scholarship, das DAAD Studienstipendium, den SUAL Award, sowie „Los Angeles’s Ten Worst Neighbors of 2015“ von LA Curbed und Platzierungen in Year-End Charts von A Closer Listen, Musique Machine und Espace Sonore. Miriam Stoney (geb. 1994, Scunthorpe, Vereinigtes Königreich) ist Schriftstellerin, Übersetzerin und Künstlerin. Stoneys Praxis ist in erster Linie textbasiert und umfasst Ausstellungsgestaltung, Performance und verschiedene Formen des Schreibens. Die Arbeiten der Künstlerin wurden unter anderem bei Prosopopoeia, Wien; im Salzburger Kunstverein; im Kunstverein in Hamburg (alle 2024); in der Klosterruine Berlin (2023) und im Tanzquartier Wien (2022) gezeigt. Leonie Strecker is a composer and sound artist. Her work includes electronic and electro-acoustic music, compositions for soloists and ensembles, as well as performances and installations. She explores ideas around the hybridity of form, presence and absence, the connection of memory and experience, and the meaning of concrete and synthetic sound. Her works have been shown at La Biennale di Venezia, Venice; Audio Art Festival, Krakow; Musikprotokoll Festival, Graz; Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf; Kunstsammlung NRW, Düsseldorf; De Singel Arts Centre, Antwerp; ZKM, Karlsruhe, among others. Bartholomaeus Wächter is an artist based in Vienna. He graduated under Hans Schabus at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. His work has been shown in institutions and independent spaces such as Salzburger Kunstverein, Neuer Kunstverein Wien, Gallery Wonnerthdejaco, Kunsthalle Exnergasse, PARALLEL Vienna and Haus Wien. Recent projects include Insides of a Practice at Laurenz Space (Vienna) and ANTON at Plateau Vienna. He is a founding member of the artist collective Garage Show This artistic practice explores the intersection of self-produced systems and industrially standardized objects. Drawing on processes of mass production, Bartholomaeus Wächter creates unique sculptural forms that resemble functional, elements like architectural fragments, but resist utility. These objects operate as regulatory tools: they demarcate space, direct movement, and subtly choreograph bodily interaction. Through materials and methods rooted in “tooling” and control logic, his work reflects on the fragile promise of structure and the social infrastructures embedded in technologies of organization.
