Teatri del suono festival & collettivo: on the edge

ON THE EDGE is an eclectic and crossbreed project: listening, viewing, sound experience of space, interaction with objects and multimedia devices create a synaesthetic reality at the centre of which are music and sound.
The works presented – music, audiovisual and installations – draw an immersive path characterised by hybridisation and contamination between different materials, aesthetics, practices and techniques that freely follow the impulses of a common thematic trace, generating a reflection on the questions posed by the present. The video-concert Dissoluzione dello sguardo presents some works by Paolo Pachini and his students at the Department of Music and New Technologies of the Conservatorio Tartini in Trieste, exploring the concepts of hypertrophy and subtraction as tools for new perspectives in audiovisual work.

«Lost in a labyrinth of visual splinters – wrote Pachini – we finally seem to realize the dream we have been cherishing for millennia: to replace the body with images, assuring us immortality. We hope to endlessly repeat the same gestures suspended in an ethereal space-time diaphragm.This work  is not meant to show a road to salvation for the gaze, nor to nostalgically seek a beauty that no longer concerns us because we no longer even have the inner time to contemplate it. This work will only reproduce in an even more obsessive form the coming and going of our gaze in the forest of artificial images, distorting them, fragmenting them, connecting them in delirious ways. Abstract graphics and audio synthesis by physical models lend themselves to electrifying interferences in a feverish media excess».

On the edge between past and future, the music program brings fragments of memory, extreme works that witnessed their time, imagining a different world, through the dark shadows of the present.
 The musical writing that sometimes takes flight, rising from sign to sound. The powerful fragility of music. Heterogeneity, coexistence.
 Fear and desire.
 The music – through writing and improvisation, electronics and classical instruments, unusual line-ups, reinterpretations, dialogues between protagonists of modernity and witnesses of the present – traces a crossbreed space that tells of musicians who have not stopped to confront the complexity of composing, for whom the technological innovations of modernity do not mean renouncement and loss of meaning in musical research, but indicate a way of reconnection to human archetypes, to memory, and to the need for the future.
