Stanislas Pili solo: Regime Orizzontale, for amplified bass drum with XY miking
Stanislas Pili (Komposition, Performance). In the piece, microphones are placed horizontally a few centimetres from the skin of a bass drum. The performer rubs his hands and objects on top of the skin in order to spatialise the sounds in the hall in an analog way by exploiting the microphonation and the position of the loudspeakers.

Stanislas Pili (Komponist und Performer, *1989) is based in Berne and works on projects in experimental music, music theatre, multimedia and improvisation. He works as a performer and composer without placing barriers between the roles he assumes. In his work, sound and visual elements are composed in parallel and used freely without a hierarchy between the various media: prepared objects, electro-acoustic devices, video and light are co-protagonists with the performer. He has performed in seasons and festivals such as Manifeste IRCAM Paris, Gare du Nord Basel, Sonic Matter Zürich, EXIT Montevideo, Acht Brücken Köln and Milano Musica. His compositions have been performed by other performers at festivals such as BAM Berlin, Spazio Musica Cagliari, IGNM Zürich and Archipel Genève. In parallel to his artistic activity, he works as director of the Concours Nicati (Swiss National Competition of Contemporary Music) and is a member of the board of IGNM Bern. www.stanislaspili.com

Mercury: Lori Freedman (Klarinetten) & Nicolas Caloia (Kontrabass)

Mercury is a Montreal-based improvising duo, a product of a long-time collaboration between Lori Freedman (clarinets) and Nicolas Caloia (doublebass). We hope that we are close to finding a satisfying sound aesthetic : unpredictable, untempered, organic, and irregular, but none-the-less, with cadence, consonance, transparency and silence. The music we seek is dynamic and conversational in structure and has a sensitive, thoughtful quality rich in polyphonic and gestural interplay.

Lori Freedman is one of the most important avant-garde musicians of her generation and her bass clarinet playing is unprecedented. Highlighted among her favorites are performances with Joëlle Léandre, Steve Lacy, Frances-Marie Uitti, Roscoe Mitchell, Charlotte Hug, Misha Mengelberg, Joe McPhee, Rohan de Saram, John Butcher, George Lewis, Malcolm Goldstein, Axel Dörner, and Richard Barrett. http://www.lorifreedman.com

Nicolas Caloia is a Montreal based double bassist, composer, and bandleader and his surprising and unique musical voice is a force in the creative music scene. Caloia’s music can be heard in ongoing collaborations with Tristan Honsinger and Joshua Zubot, Joe McPhee, Matana Roberts, Malcolm Goldstein, Sam Shalabi, Jean Derome, and Yves Charuest, and in past projects with Roscoe Mitchell, Marshall Allen, Steve Lacy, Hassan Hakmoun, William Parker, and Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. http://www.nicolascaloia.net
