The piece focuses on glitch textures, using the bassoon as a whole, but also as independent acoustic amplifiers for breath and voice. Neural synthesis employs custom-trained models based on datasets of female voices. These models act as ghosts “haunting” the bassoon’s output in real time, responding with distorted words and fragmented sounds. This creates an unsettling, relentless atmosphere in which digital vocal identities are constantly deconstructed and reimagined to reflect the performer’s movements. The result is an intense dialogue between the physical mechanics of the bassoon and the erratic logic of the neural network.

Sandra Muciño is a bassoonist and performer working with experimental and improvisational practices. With a background in classical music and bassoon performance, her work explores the intersections of performance, sound, and space. She has performed at the Ars Electronica, Unsafe and Sounds, Wien Modern, Neofonia, Resonancias, Blockheide Leuchtet festivals. As an improviser, she is constantly experimenting, which is why she has worked with different artists to create performances that challenge her perception of sound, the body, and the stage. In 2025, she presented HINDRANCE at Deep Space Ars Electronica, as well as Unmuted Gasps and Saying not saying as part of the Ars Electronica festival.
