Inspired by the works of groundbreaking composers such as Alvin Lucier and Michael Pisaro-Liu, the project reimagines the boundaries of percussion through unconventional approaches to sound production. Through techniques which explore the effects of friction and gravity, Kaja transforms a single triangle and snare drum into a medium for sonic discovery. Blending Lucier’s acoustic experimentation and Pisaro-Liu’s minimalist textures, this program creates immersive soundscapes that challenge traditional performance boundaries. The project invites audiences to engage deeply with sound as a physical phenomenon, blending electro-acoustic experimentation with meditative performance.

Kaja Farszky is a Croatian-born percussionist currently based in Belgium. She is active as a soloist and collaborates with chamber ensembles, orchestras, and artists from various disciplines, including dance, theatre, and visual arts. Her performances are distinguished by a powerful artistic presence and a thoughtfully crafted extramusical dramaturgical concept, emphasizing both visual and scenic elements. Kaja is dedicated to contemporary music and improvisation, frequently engaging in new creations and collaborations with composers. She believes in the limitless potential of percussion instruments, viewing them as tools for boundless musical expression.

https://www.kajafarszky.com/
https://www.instagram.com/kajafarszky/
https://soundcloud.com/kajafarszkypercussionist
https://vimeo.com/kajafarszky

Der Betrieb ist ein Kunstraum am Vogelweidplatz 13 im 15. The presence of each body resonates and affects the sound waves, connecting us to one another and causing the relationships between all bodily matters to vibrate and swing. With the long durational format emblematic of Der Betrieb, the audience is welcome to enjoy an accessible sound-body experience where every sound wave is detectable and each body holds significance, defined by its unique mass and presence. Utrumque (Gerhard Eckel and Ludvig Elblaus) with their specialised knowledge in building room scaled acoustic feedback systems will not only develop this immersive instrument but also act as the musicians, performing live throughout the duration of the performances. The dancers, whose movements are based on repetition and transformation, also engage their voices from a movement perspective, creating sounds and syllables that remind us of songs and languages.
In times when human relationships both with each other and the world around us are under stress and pressure, it becomes vital to open up our senses and truly listen. One way to remain open and foster diverse meaningful relations is to dwell in time and let exchange and dialogue take centre stage. With The Season of Sound, we aim to create a space where movement and sound can dance together.
