Barbara Togander, vocalist and turntablist (SE\/AR); Camila Nebbia, saxophone player (AR\/DE); Joanna Mattrey, violist (US\/IE); and Andrea Parkins, accordionist, amplified objects, and laptop electronics (US\/DE): Together, their music explores abstract textures of free improvised music, encompassing a wide range of dynamics from minimal and ethereal to frenetic dark expressionism.<\/p>\n

Andrea Parkins<\/strong> is an electroacoustic musician, composer, and sound artist who engages with interactive electronics as a compositional\/performative process. Working with an array of sonic materials \u2013 electronically processed accordion, custom-built software, amplified objects, and electronic feedback \u2013 her performances and installations explore connections and slippages between the body, materiality, sound, site, and space. Parkins\u2019 projects include multi-channel sound performances and intermedia installations, electroacoustic solo and ensemble compositions; and sound for contemporary dance, experimental film and intermedia performance. She performs as a solo artist, and has collaborated with artists such as Ute Wassermann, Magda Mayas, George E. Lewis, Nels Cline, The Necks, choreographer Vera Mantero, and filmmaker Abigail Child, among others. Her performances and installations have been presented at venues such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, Caf\u00e9 Oto, The Kitchen, Experimental Intermedia (NYC), Kunsthalle Basel, and Mus\u00e9e d\u2019Art Moderne et Contemporain, Strasbourg. Festival appearances have included NEXT\/Bratislava, Cyberfest\/St. Petersburg, All Ears\/Oslo, Jazz im Augusto\/Lisbon, Music Unlimited\/Wels, and many more. Parkins\u2019 recent projects include The Stray II, a site-responsive 8-channel spatial audio and visual installation that was featured at Momentum 12\/The Nordic Biennale at Galleri F15 in Moss, Norway; her intermedia installation, Sonic Spaces for the Stray, presented in 2021 at ROM for kunst og arkitektur in Oslo; and her performance\/installation, Two Rooms, Variation 1, for 40 loudspeakers and Solo Performer, premiered in 2016 at Akousma Festival in Montreal. Andrea Parkins has been an invited resident artist at Rauschenberg Residency in Captiva, Florida; Elektronmusikstudion (EMS), Stockholm; Harvestworks Digital Media Arts Center (NYC); and by Frei und Hanseastadt Hamburg Kulturbehoerde. Her recordings are published by Important Records, Infrequent Seams, Confront Recordings, Atavistic, Henceforth Records and Creative Sources; and she can be heard as a contributor on numerous other labels. In 2022-2023, she is a fellow of the Berliner F\u00f6rderprogramm K\u00fcnstlerische Forschung \/ Berlin Artistic Research Grant Programme.

Barbara Togander<\/strong> is a vocal artist, turntablist, free improviser, composer and sound artist born in Uddevalla, Sweden, based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, since her adolescence. She studied bass at Walter Malosetti’s Jazz School, at the Conservatorio de M\u00fasica L\u00f3pez Buchardo and at the Conservatorio de M\u00fasica Popular de Avellaneda. In the early 90’s he ventured into free and experimental music and free improvisation where he delved into the sonic possibilities of voice, turntables and electronics. She has played and collaborated with a great number of musicians such as Otomo Yoshihide, Juli\u00e1n Galay, Enrique Norris, Christoff Kurzmann, VIU, Manolo Rodriguez, Carlos Costa, Larry Polansky, Chris Mann, Shelley Hirsch, La Bomba de Tiempo, Dieb13, Walter Malosetti, Norberto Minichilo, Santi Vazquez, Joan Monn\u00e9, Paul Pignon. Joanna Mattrey<\/strong> is a NYC violist and composer active in both the new music and free improvisation communities who’s playing often incorporates textural gestures, preparations, and electronic alterations. She is searching for moments of ceremony and ritual in a modern soundscape. As a 2021 ISSUE project room artist-in-residence, she presented her new works THRUM, a staged film performance piece with poet No Land, POV: Simulation, a synesthesia collaboration with physicist Dr. Graham Walker, and New Compositions for Improvisor, a performance of 5 world premieres written for Mattrey’s unique playing style, featuring works by Nick Dunston, Leila Bordreuil, Lucie Vitkova, Weasel Walter, an a new piece for improvisor and installation by Mattrey.\u00a0 Recent releases include Mattrey’s second solo record ‚Dirge‘ (Dear Life Recs, 2021), featured in the Wire’s Under the Radar, Bandcamp’s New and Notable, and Bandcamp Daily’s ‚Contemporary Recordings on Historical Instruments.“Death in the Guilded Age‘ with Ava Mendoza, gabby fluke-mogul, and Matteo Liberatore (Tripticks Tapes, 2021) ‚Oracle‘ duo with gabby fluke-mogul (Relative Pitch Records, 2022). Camila Nebbia<\/strong>\u00a0is a saxophone player, composer, improviser, visual artist, curator and educator debasing hierarchical systems by exploring counterpoints of migrational longing through multiple, but minimally separated, mediums. From Buenos Aires, Argentina, based in Berlin, Germany, the multidisciplinary artist layers her practice through the creation and destruction of archival memory. Has released as a band leader and solo performer \u201cA veces la luz de lo que existe resplandece solamente a la distancia\u201d (Kuai 2017), \u201cDe este lado\u201d (Club del disco 2019), Aura (ears&eyes records 2020),\u201cCorre el r\u00edo de la memoria\u201d (ramble records 2021) and \u201cPresencias\u201d (Sound Holes 2021) \u201cUna ofrenda a la ausencia\u201d (Relative Pitch Records 2023).
